AI Agents (Abilities API and MCP)
Google Customer Reviews can be set up and checked by an AI agent. An agent such as Claude, Cursor or VS Code Copilot can walk you through the setup, enter your Merchant Center ID, configure the survey opt-in, the seller rating badge and product ratings, and gather the debug information for a support request.
Version 1.0.3 of Google Customer Reviews for WooCommerce.
The plugin registers its settings as abilities with the WordPress Abilities API. The WordPress MCP Adapter plugin makes them available to AI clients. To connect your AI client, follow the setup in AI Agents and MCP. This page explains what the agent can do with Google Customer Reviews once it is connected.
How It Works
- The agent has exactly your permissions. Every ability uses the same permission check as the plugin's admin screen: the agent's WordPress user needs the
manage_woocommercecapability, which administrators and shop managers have. - Same validation as the admin. Every value goes through the same checks as the settings screen. A value outside the allowed options, a non-boolean for an on/off setting or a non-number for a numeric setting is refused with an error that lists the accepted values. Numbers outside their range are clamped, and the agent gets the stored value back.
- Every save is backed up. Before any change, the previous settings are backed up, the same way as when you save in the admin screen.
- A built-in setup guide. The plugin tells the agent how far the setup is, which step comes next, and which shortcodes you can place on your pages.
All abilities start with google-customer-reviews/.
Getting Started
Once your AI client is connected, ask in plain language. A good first request:
Set up Google Customer Reviews for my shop.
The agent reads google-customer-reviews/get-setup-guide and works through the steps, asking you for anything only you know, such as your Google Merchant Center ID.
More examples of what you can ask:
- "Is Google Customer Reviews fully set up?"
- "Turn on the survey opt-in and show it as a tray at the bottom of the page."
- "Show the seller rating badge at the bottom left, and turn off the preview mode."
- "Turn on product ratings."
- "Use the billing address to determine the delivery country."
- "Get the debug info for a support request."
Available Abilities
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
get-setup-guide | Setup readiness, the ordered setup steps, the next recommended action, the available shortcodes, and every setting with its allowed values and current value. The main entry point for a guided setup. |
get-settings | Every current setting: Merchant Center ID, language, survey opt-in, seller rating badge, product ratings and logging. |
get-settings-schema | Every setting with its dot-notation path, type, default, allowed values and constraints. |
get-debug-info | The debug information from the Support tab, including the license state, as structured data and as plain text for a support ticket. |
update-setting | Changes one setting by its path, for example survey_opt_in.enabled or badge.position. |
update-settings | Changes several settings at once, for example {"settings": {"merchant_center_id": "123456789", "survey_opt_in": {"enabled": true}}}. Reports per setting whether it was updated, unchanged, invalid with the reason, or unknown. |
Each ability describes its inputs and outputs in detail, and the agent reads these descriptions itself. You don't need to know the ability names to use them.
Read-Only Mode
To let agents read and diagnose but never change anything, add this filter. The write abilities are then not registered at all:
add_filter( 'gcr_abilities_allow_write', '__return_false' );
